Abstract
In order to evaulate the antihypertensive effect and safety of once-daily fosinopril, acting angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, daily doses of 10 to 40 mg once a day were administered in 20 mild to moderate essential hypertensive patients
whose
diastolic pressure was between 95~110 mmHg. Blood pressure was and pulse rate were measured every 4 weeks up to 16 weeks. The complete blood count, electrolyte, liver enzymes and lipid profiles were measured at baseline and end-point of study
period.
@ES The results were as follows;
@EN 1) Systolic and diastolic blood pressure at baseline was 160.9¡¾5m3 mmHg, and 104¡¾6.7 mmHg, respectively. 4 weeks after administration of fosinopril systolic and diastolic pressure decreased significantly (144.5¡¾11.8 mmHg, 93¡¾6.7 mmHg,
p<0.05),
respectively) and this antihypertensive effect persisted during study period.
2) All patients reached target blood pressure and the required dose of fosinopril was 10 mg in 8 cases, 20 mg in 8 case, 30 mg in 2 cases and 40 mg in 2 cases.
3) The changes of electrolyte, blood sugar levels, and lipid profiles were not different between baseline and end-point of study period but 1 cases showed mild elevation of liver enzymes
4) Adverse effects of fosinopril were coughing (4 case), headache (2 cases), constipation (2 cases) and indigestion (1 case)
In conclusion, it was suggested that once-daily fosinopril is effective and safe drug to treat mild to moderate hypertension.
